RCMP are reminding drivers of some simple distracted driving tips, and how to prevent distracted driving.
RCMP advise to finish grooming before leaving home (do not comb your hair, shave or apply make-up while driving), pre-set the temperature, GPS, radio or music (do not make adjustments unless the vehicle is stopped), leave early for extra travel time, and know the itinerary (do not attempt to read a map while driving).
RCMP stated on their Facebook page that texting while at a red light is also considered a form of distracted driving, as it is one thing that limits a driver’s ability to focus on the road. Distracted driving behaviors also include talking on a cell phone, reading a book, eating, attending to other passengers or pets, and personal grooming.
The penalty for distracted driving in Alberta is a $287 fine and 3 demerit points.
