The president of the Peace River Chamber of Commerce says their meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was a positive one.

Justin Hicks feels hopeful that some of the issues that they discussed for improving the economy will be addressed at the federal level.

“I think sometimes we feel a little bit apprehensive when it comes to conversations like that because sometimes we hear on social media and stuff, it seems like we hear the opposite. I think it was really refreshing to hear that from Chrystia, I hope that’s exactly what the Liberal government’s position is.”

Hicks adds that the meeting put him “more at ease” with Freeland’s thoughts towards Alberta.

“She was obviously shocked to hear when we shared with her that 51 businesses we’ve lost since 2015 here in Peace River. What I found really interesting was she’s very pro-pipeline and she’s very supportive of Albertans and Alberta oil and she echoed the fact that we are the most environmentally conscience when it comes to oil.”

Freeland also visited several other places in the Province and also met with Premier Kenney as well.
