The Chuckegg Creek Wildfire has jumped the Peace River. Thankfully, it looks like this was spotted very soon after it happened. Only half a hectare has been burned. Crews responded very quickly to this fire spot and continue to battle fire restriction with heavy machinery.
Structural protection has been deployed in La Crête, and is under examination in Blue Hills.
At this time, the Chuckegg still sits south of Devil Lake. Structural protection is also being examined for Beaver Nation, and is already in place for southern rural residents in the area.
The wildfire still burns at the river by the oxbow. It currently sits roughly six kilometres back from the river, directly west of La Crête. It’s also more or less six km south of Devil Lake and about three km south of Surette Lake.
The main concern for fire crews today is the weather. Especially the winds.
