Cougars Destroy Renegades 50-19

The Hillside Cougars from Valleyview continue to extend their winning streak in the Mighty Peace Football League (MPFL).

The Cougars outscored the visiting High Prairie Renegades 39-6 at the end of the First Half, with the game ending with a score of 50-19.

“Coming into the home stretch, it’s nice to see the guys come together and play, like I know they can,” Valleyview Head Coach Travis Loewen told the Trending 55 Newsroom. “Obviously, we let our starters start, and once they gave us that nice cushion, we rolled out our second-string guys and give them a chance to play.”

Loewen says a couple of players stood out during their game against High Prairie.

“Our starters obviously did great,” he said. “Dylan Tollefson had another great game, as is quite typical for him. But our back-up quarterback, Colby Krueger, he showed some nice plays. He’s just a Grade Nine boy, but was able to pick up his first touchdown as a quarterback during the game, and his third overall this season.”

He also took the time to discuss what the teams plans were going forward towards the end of the season.

“Every week, we always try to add something new to our playbook,” said Loewen. “If all goes according to plan in our next game, we may even be able to get our backup team in there to get more playing time.”

Over with the Renegades, Head Coach Troy Johnston said on social media that the team just didn’t seem to be playing during the first half.

“I know everyone could have played much better,” said Johnston. “I always tell the guys that they have the athleticism and ability to win games.”

He says they showed that in the second half, with High Prairie outscoring Valleyview 13-11.

“If the guys play every half like they did in the second, I have no doubt that many of our losses would be victories,” Johnston added. “All they need to do now is show it the entire game.”

Loewen, meanwhile, adds that High Prairie has some good plays too throughout the game.

“That’s a program that’s hopefully on the rise,” he said. “They’ve showed some flashes, and I look forward to seeing that program grow over the next couple of years.”

The Cougars are at home next week for their final regular season game of the year, when they host Grande Prairie Composite School at 4 PM.

Meanwhile, the Peace River Pioneers host the Charles Spencer Mavericks this afternoon at 4 PM, while on Friday, October 20, they play host to the Renegades for each team’s regular season finale.
