The current mayor of High Level wants to serve a second term.

Crystal McAteer was first elected by acclamation in 2013, after serving on council for a number of years, including a stint as Deputy Mayor.

The former educator told the Trending 55 Newsroom that some challenges do remain for the town during the next term.

Assuming she is back in for a second term, McAteer hopes to continue her council’s opposition to provincial and federal policies regarding protected lands.

Another sore point she has with the other two levels of government is the way the census was conducted.

All in all, McAteer says things were very interesting during her first term in office, and she expects her second term to be just as eventful.

Voters across the province head to the polls in their municipalities on Monday, October 16, 2017.
