Fort Vermilion School Division changes bus cancellation policy

The Fort Vermilion School Division is making changes to its bus cancellation policy. The biggest change will be around cancellations when the temperature is too cold.

The new policy states that if the temperature is below minus 40 degrees (or minus 48 with the wind chill) than bus service will be cancelled.

FVSD Superintendent, Mike McMann says this change will remove guesswork from deciding whether to cancel buses for that given day.

“There were a small number of people that could make a judgement call,” says McMann. “This firms up the consistency and no one needs to make a decision. All they have to do is check the data from Environment Canada’s weather service.”

The policy became effective on Monday. McMann says the biggest change to the rules factors in the wind chill.
