On September 7th at 1am, Grande Prairie RCMP, along with Fire and EMS, were on scene of a serious collision on Highway 40, south of Grande Prairie near Grovedale.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck was travelling northbound, and a semi-truck was travelling southbound, when the collision occurred.
The lone occupant of the pickup truck, a 42 year old woman from Lethbridge, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the semi truck, a 32 year old male from Grande Prairie, was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to the QE II hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Grande Prairie RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Analyst, continue to investigate. All possible contributing factors for the collision are being considered.
The highway remained impassable for multiple hours before a detour was put up later that morning.
