The Town of Manning will have a new mayor once the province’s civic elections are over.

Councillor Greg Rycroft has been acclaimed to the centre seat on Tuesday, September 21, 2017, after incumbent Mayor Sunni-Jeanne Walker withdrew her name from consideration.

Walker, who served as the town’s mayor since 2007, has since refiled her nomination papers to run for councillor instead.

The Trending 55 Newsroom was able to reach Rycroft by phone.

Rycroft says there is one thing he’d like to see improve during his coming term.

But, at this point, the town may not even be able to operate with a full council. To date, just two others have filed their candidacies, along with Walker, to run for the six council spots. Nominations will be open Friday from 10 AM until 12 Noon, and on Monday if needed during those same times.

Rycroft describes what happens if nobody else files after Monday’s noon deadline.

Anyone who wishes to run for council can head to the Manning Town Office to pick up a nomination package.
