The Reeve of Northern Sunrise County says one of their biggest priorities for 2020 is to get more support for the agriculture sector.

Carolyn Kolebaba says after a tough year for farmers in the region, they want to see the province and the feds provide more help for them.

“They are working extremely hard themselves to get their crops where they would like them to be, but mother nature sometimes takes control and this year was a good example of that and so was last year.”

She also says that the biggest thing farmers need is relief.

“I’m hoping that if they can’t make their allotted payments that they just move forward with the interest then if that’s the case or maybe cut back some of the interest that they are charging them. However it works, they need relief.”

Kolebaba also adds that quote “we need to support them better than what we are now.”

The County had declared an agricultural disaster back in November after a number of crops went unharvested.
