Linda Cox is aiming to keep her job a little bit longer as High Prairie’s Mayor.

She’s announced she is indeed running for a second full term, after first being elected in a by-election in January 2013. She won a full term to her position in October of that year.

Cox is also the Administrator of the Lesser Slave Lake Economic Alliance.

She told the Trending 55 Newsroom that while she’s pleased taxes are now lower in the community, the job’s not over yet.

She says that she wants to make sure that they stay on that road to maintain reasonable taxes, which Cox hopes will attract more business to the community.

Cox also cited Tolko reopening its doors, as well as Tim Horton’s coming to town, as other items that were achieved during her time as mayor.

Another reason she said she is running is her desire to see Northern Lakes College consolidate onto the location of the town’s old hospital.

Cox also hopes to continue improving the relationship between the town and the First Nations communities.

Challenging Cox for her position this election cycle is Town Councillor Brian Panasiuk.

The High Prairie & Area Chamber of Commerce is set to hold a candidates forum on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
