MD of Peace Takes a Break from Municipal Election

Voters across the Peace Country cast ballots yesterday in Municipal Elections.

But one area that didn’t have to hold a vote was the Municipal District (MD) of Peace, where the entire council was in by acclamation.

The successful candidates include Bob Willing, who’s held the Division 5 seat for the past nine years, and has been Reeve for the past year.

“There are a couple of things that I’d like to concentrate on during the current term,” Willing told the Trending 55 Newsroom. “That includes the North Peace Housing Issue, as well as the Autumn Lodge. I’d like to get that issue resolved sooner rather than later.”

Willing adds that they also have some of the new MGA provisions that they still have to look after.

“We also have some of the financial end of things that has to be taken care of,” he said. “We also have to do mandatory councillor training before early November. So, for the most part, it’s just housekeeping issues that we have to take care of.”

Willing will know on October 24, 2017 on whether or not he’ll get to keep his job as Reeve. That’s the night they hold their organizational meeting. That includes picking both the Reeve and Deputy Reeve, as well as which committees each of the five council members gets to sit on.
