The Municipal District of Smoky River is investing in technology to give its residents more immediate information.

Marcel Maure is the Fire Chief and Director of Protective Services for the MD, and says officials were looking for a way to give updates on critical incidents and well as regular communication to residents and businesses.

“Voyent-Alert is an app-based system we can use to get a message across via app, text, or even a telephone call,” explains Maure.

Maure says the program was able to keep people up-to-date on snow removal progress this past weekend.

“We had roads jammed full of snow (this past weekend) and our graders were slow in getting to all the roads so we made residents aware that some roads were blocked with snow,” says Maure.

“If the garbage truck breaks down, or a water main breaks, it is a great way to let residents know.”

He says the program will be used for emergency situations as well as less urgent notices.

“We also shared info relating to COVID-19 available with the links as well so people can stay up-to-date,” concludes Maure.

The program is free for residents to use, and you can click here to sign up.
