Navs, Flyers Each Have Two Games This Weekend

The North Peace Navigators see a couple of games this weekend in Northwest Junior Hockey League (NWJHL).

The Navs head to Sexsmith on Friday to take on the Vipers. And then on Saturday, they return home to the Baytex Energy Centre to take on the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks.

The Navs, at this point in the season, continue to hold a tenuous lead in the standings. They’re 12-and-4, good for 24 points, which puts them two ahead of the Fort St. John Huskies. The Jr. Canucks currently has 21 points, with the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings in fourth at 20, making the battle for top spot a four-way race.

The Fairvew Flyers are in fifth at 7-and-7, good four 14 points. The Vipers are just behind with 11 points, while the Beaverlodge Blades, with two wins all year, bring up the rear with just four points.

The Flyers also have two games this weekend. They host Fort St. John at the Fairplex on Friday, while they head to Clairmont to take on the JDA Kings on Saturday.

Leading in the scoring race are two Jr. Canucks. Wesley Shipton leads with 40 points, followed by Griffin Young at 29. Zach Bennett from the County Kings is in third, while another Jr. Canuck, Dustin Bahm, is in fourth.

Coming in fifth is Blake Carpenter from the Navs at 26 points, while Matt Leuken, the highest-ranking Fairview player, is in 12th spot at 19 points.
