Navs Lose to Flyers, Beat JDA Kings Over the Weekend

The North Peace Navigators are now in second place again in the Northwest Junior Hockey League (NWJHL).

They went 1-0-and-1 over the weekend, giving them three points in the standings.

The Fairview Flyers won their first match-up on Saturday, December 9, 2017, edging out the Navs 5-4 in overtime at Peace River’s Baytex Energy Centre.

Cale Fox scored two goals, including the winner, for the Flyers. Kyle Cairns got a goal and two assists, Trevor Tokarz registered a goal and an assist, while Zacheri Schlachter got one goal. Registering two assists was Mikyler Dodds, while Remee Richard got one assist. As well, Alex Sawchuk stopped 31 of 35 shots in net.

For the Navs, Calvin Sanders and Cole Diewert each scored two goals, with Sanders also netting an assist. Getting two assists was Davis Rose, while Roger Supernault, Christian Kenny and Blake Carpenter each netted one assist. Ryan Noble also managed to save 37 of 42 shots on goal.

The Navs also had a game the next day, and this time, they won. They beat the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings by a score of 6-1.

Xavier Lavoie saved 27 of 28 shots in net, with Blake Carpenter getting three goals and three assists for a total of six points. Brennen Walker got two of the other goals, while Theo Cunningham got a goal and two assists. Christian Kenny also once again netted an assist this game.

The standings have the Fort St. John Huskies in first place overall with a 17-and-3 record and 34 points. The Navs are 15-6-and-1 while the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks are 15-8-and-1, good for 31 points for each team. The Flyers remain down in fifth spot at 9-10-and-1 for 19 points.

Fairview has a game on Wednesday, December 13. That’s when they play host to the Sexsmith Vipers at 8 PM at the Fairplex.
