Peace River’s Midget Royals Crushing It; Bantam Sabres Getting Crushed

The Peace River Minor Hockey Season continues to chug along.

While the Midget Royals are so far crushing it, the Bantam Sabres are the ones getting crushed.

The Royals were on the road over the weekend, where they first landed in Lloydminster on Saturday, October 7, 2017. This game was close, but Peace River was triumphant, edging out the Blazers 7-6. Dawson Gour scored two for the Royals, with Eric Dentiger, Robert Lemay, Raine D’Or, Pheonix Dumas and Tanner Lins each scoring the other five. Dominic Bernetic was able to make 26 saves in net.

Peace River was then in Fort Saskatchewan on Sunday, October 8, where they just blasted the Rangers by a 7-1 score. Dentiger netted four of the seven goals, with Dumas, Kyle Yaniuk and Jonathan Noskey each nabbing the other three goals. Mason Ward was in net, where he made 40 saves in his second win of the season.

The Sabres, however, didn’t have much luck this weekend either, as they were edged out by the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers on Saturday 5-4. Netting the four Peace River goals were Corey Issac, who scored two, as well as Ty Cousins and Brandon Still, who netted one each. Jesse Schweigert was able to make 34 saves in net.

But Sunday was no better for the Sabres, as they fell 11-3 to the Sturgeon Sting. Scoring the three goals for the losing team was Harlan Noskey, Kyle Dickie and Mathieu Maisonneuve. Matthew Ireland made 29 saves in net before being pulled from the game in the third period, while Jesse Schweigert made nine more saves.

The Royals have just one game this weekend, when they play host to the Fort McMurray Barons at the Baytex Energy Centre at 12:45.

The Sabres hope to get their season back on track on Saturday, when they take on the Bears in St. Albert. They’re also in Whitecourt on Sunday to take on the Wolverines.
