Peace River’s Misery Mountain Facing Issues Regarding Quads & Snowmobiles

Peace River’s Misery Mountain Ski Hill is showing some concerns regarding quads and snowmobiles operating on the hill.

President Lynden Waites told the Trending 55 Newsroom that even though there’s a bylaw in place to prevent it, they still catch some quads on the hill.

“We did have to chase a couple of quads off the hill the other night,” said Waites.

He says quads, as well as snowmobiles, could put ruts in the hills, causing some issues for skiers.

“We spend a lot of time afterhours grooming that hill, so that skiers can ski in good conditions,” he continued. “If we get a snowmobiler or a quad ripping up through the runs, it could cause a lot of problems, especially for inexperienced skiers.”

Waites says every time one of those vehicles appears on the hill, it undermines what they try to do, that being keeping the runs in good shape.

“People walk up and down that hill,” he said. “Some guys say that they’ll not do it during business hours, and will do it after hours instead. But we’ve got people on the hill, including employees and volunteers, on that hill during after hours, and we’ve got people walking on that hill after hours.”

As a result, he says snowmobiles and quads should stay off the hill in order for it to remain safe for everybody to use.
