Peace River’s water contains minimal lead

The Town of Peace River’s water supply contains minimal lead. That’s according to the town’s Communication’s Coordinator, Autumn Hulme, who says the last sample contained only one percent of the allowable amount of lead according to federal guidelines. Last week, various national media outlets reported that many Canadian cities had lead in their water that exceeded regulations.

In an e-mail to the Trending 55 Newsroom, Hulme mentioned that waterline materials are made of: asbestos cement, cast iron, polyvinyl chloride (P.V.C.) and high-density polyethylene (H.D.P.E). Anyone who lives in an older home who has any concerns about the possibility of lead being present in their water lines may choose to have a plumber or home inspector inspect the lines for the presence of lead containing products and may recommend water testing options.

The results of that testing can be forwarded to A.H.S. and staff will work with those residents to assist them in addressing potential issues with the type of water system materials they have and will provide advice or direction on the next steps required.

If you are concerned about your home’s water supply, you can contact Alberta Health Services at AHS.Corp@albertahealthservices.ca, or by phone at 780-342-2000, or toll-free at 1-888-342-2471.
