Shell Canada is putting its support behind post-secondary education in the Peace Region. The oil and gas company announced it is donating $50,000 towards construction of a new campus in High Prairie for Northern Lakes College. The new campus is expected to accommodate as many as 225 students with a wide variety of programs available; including programs in the healthcare field and the skilled trades. To recognize the donation, the college will be naming a lab in the new campus the Shell Trades Lab.

“We are excited that Shell has supported this investment towards the new High Prairie Campus. This new campus will allow programming growth to meet the regional employment and training needs,” says Northern Lakes College President, Ann Everatt in a media release. “Shell has been a strong advocate and partner for many years including a significant investment in 2013 in which the power lab in Peace River was named the Northern Lakes College Shell Canada Power Engineering and Technology Centre.”

“Shell appreciates the efforts of Northern Lakes College to provide a variety of programming to students in many areas of Northern Alberta, and we value our long-time partnership with the College. We believe in being a good neighbor and supporting the communities where we operate,” mentions Shell Community Liaison, Charlene Parker.

In the media release, Northern Lakes College indicated that construction of the $24 million facility is on schedule and expects the doors to be open to students and faculty by the fall of 2020. Last month, Big Lakes County donated $100,000 towards campus construction.
