A series of open houses is taking place next week for the Alberta Northwest Species at Risk Committee.

Committee administrator Hayley Gavin says they’ll have some presentations there on some of the projects that they’re working on.

“We are gathering information for the caribou ranges. We are working with the Alberta Trappers Association, that has involved some of the local trappers to deploy devices for us. We’re also working with the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute.”

Gavin adds that getting information from the communities is the main thing they want to get from the open houses.

“One of the projects we’re working on is the collaborative project. Basically, we feel that the federal and provincial statistics perhaps are missing some information from the region. We want to try and help build on from there and we can’t do that without local input.”

The open houses are on Monday at the Eureka River Hall in Clear Hills County, Tuesday at the Northern Lights Council Chambers in Manning, Wednesday at the Community Rec Plex in Rainbow Lake, Thursday at the Community Hall in Fort Vermilion and Friday at the Town Council Chambers in High Level.

They all start at 5 PM.
