The Town of Peace River has largely decided to go with the status quo for the upcoming term.

Incumbent Mayor Tom Tarpey was re-elected to a second term as mayor with about 58 percent of the vote. He grabbed 977 votes, compared to 401 for Sherry Hilton and 313 for Jami Paras.

Tarpey told the Trending 55 Newsroom that he was very pleased with the result.

But now that the race is over, the real work begins.

Though she’s disappointed that she didn’t get in, Hilton told the Trending 55 Newsroom that she’s proud of the campaign that she ran.

Tarpey also took the time to thank all of the people who helped with his campaign, especially his social media director.

Three incumbent councilors will return to the table once all the new members are sworn in.

Deputy Mayor Elaine Manzer has topped the poll for the second time in a row. She grabbed 1,228 votes, 133 votes ahead of former councillor Don Good. He makes his return after a seven year absence, having previously served from 1998 until 2010.

Incumbent Orren Ford finished third on the ballot with 1,082 votes, so he’s back for another round. And it was originally reported that incumbent Rod Burr was re-elected in the sixth spot with 860 votes, while Colin Needham was voted out after only grabbing 782 votes.

But, in a statement this morning, the town says that while they reviewed the forms for provincial reporting, an error was noticed. They say that they missed bringing over one of the numbers from one tally form to another.

This means that Needham actually got 874 votes, which actually puts him 14 votes over Burr for the sixth and final spot.

As well, two fresh faces will be joining the council this year. Johanna Downing took fourth spot with 1,070 votes, followed by Byron Schamehorn in fifth with 924 votes.
