The Interview All Young Hockey Players Need To Watch

Last night Canada won gold at the World Junior Championships with a 3-2 overtime win against the Czech Republic. Connor Bedard the consensus number one pick for the upcoming 2023 NHL Entry Draft was by far and away the star of the tournament putting up 23 points shattering all-time Canada and tournament records. Throughout it all when asked about potentially breaking records or even after winning the 17 year old refused to talk about himself instead keeping the focus on “we not me.”

Growing up I knew, played with and against A LOT of pre-Madonna’s who loved to play selfish show off hockey caring more about how they looked instead of how the team looked and did. I see the same with a lot of kids today who think SportsCentre is filming their hockey games and wanting to be highlight of the night over trying to play as a team and win.

This post-game interview is everything a kid should watch and hear. Connor is still just a kid, who of all players could say, “yeah look at everything I did, I am awesome,” then praise the team to not come off to big headed, but NEVER took that route. Instead the top prospect kept all the focus on the team.

Connor Bedard is who kids should aspire to be and model themselves after. People are praising the maturity and mindset of Connor, some saying he is a legend for this interview alone.
