During the town council meeting on September 24th, Mayor Tom Tarpey signed a proclamation declaring October 4th, Sisters in Spirit day. The day is dedicated to remembering missing and murdered Indigenous women.

Mayor Tarpey says that for the last 8 years, if not more, the town hasobserved the day. He adds, “one death is one death too many. We really want to put an end to the loss of sisters, mothers, daughters, in the Indigenous community and in Canada in general.”

There will be a walk on October 4th to remember. In previous years, the walk was held at Riverfront Park. Tarpey encourages residents to look out for further information on location and time.
