Update on the Fatal Train Derailment

According to a report done by the Transportation Safety Board the train crash that resulted in the deaths of 3 crew members on monday was caused by a total loss of control. There were no hand brakes applied on the train when the crew had just boarded the train and it began to roll on its own exceeding speeds well over the 32 km/h maximum put in place for the tight turns in the area. The two locomotives and 99 grain cars were then derailed into the kicking horse river.

Fire crews from the nearby town of Field have been cleaning up after the accident and the TSB is still investigating the cause of the loss of control, over the course of the investigation they will be looking at the trains communication records and environmental factors to figure out what went wrong.
