Now that wintertime has arrived here in Alberta, the Alberta Motor Association has some tips for motorists on how they keep their vehicles running smoothly during the season.

Ryan Lemont, the AMA’s manager of driver education, says the first things you should check are your tires and batteries.

“The typical lifespan of a battery in Alberta is about 3-5 years so if your battery is within that time frame, you’ll probably need to get it checked out. The other thing too is, if you already haven’t done so, is swapping over your tires. Throwing some winter tires on. They’re the ones with the mountain snowflake on the side.”

Lemont says being prepared is the best thing you can do to handle the wintertime conditions.

“Living in wonderful Alberta, it can change in an instant. It’s about being prepared before you head out, and also making sure your vehicle is clear of snow. So getting out the snow brush brushing it all off and making sure your headlights are clear too.”
