Some big curling events will be coming to the region next winter.

Curling Alberta has selected Grande Prairie to host the 2022 Men’s and Women’s Provincial Curling Championships.

Normally the men’s and women’s provincials are contested separately, but Curling Alberta says it wanted to make the championships “a bigger, flashier event” by combining the two and having them at the same time.

Those events will take place from January 3-9, with the winning teams representing Alberta in the Brier and the Scotties.

The 2022 Scotties is set for January 28 to February 6 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The 2022 Brier goes March 4 to 13 in Lethbridge.

Before the provincials, another major curling event will also set up in Grande Prairie. After being postponed from last November, the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling will be stopping in Grande Prairie for the Tour Challenge from September 21 – 26, 2021.
