Alberta Wildfire and the Sturgeon Lake Fire Department will initiate wildfire mitigation efforts around Sturgeon Lake.
The teams will conduct controlled burns of hazardous grass in the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation community, with operations running from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, weather permitting.
The initiative aims to treat all designated burn units by early May.
Additionally, crews will manage the 2024 FireSmart project piles near the highway when conditions are unsuitable for grass burning, ensuring comprehensive fire prevention measures are in place.
