- After several months as an independent MLA, Scott Sinclair has helped being back Alberta’s Progressive Conservative Party.
The MLA for Lesser Slave Lake says that there’s already been strong support for the movement here in the region. (Interview in separate story) - The RCMP around the Peace Region are providing tips to prevent theft from vehicles this summer.
Simple tips like locking your vehicle, keeping the keys safe and out-of-sight, and closing the windows are being stressed.
Police are also saying an increase in thefts have occured in past summers from leaving a vehicle running unattended, becuase someone needed to make a quick stop. - The Peace River Canadian Tire was raising money for the Jumpstart program throughout the month of June.
They ended up raising $6,063, money that will be used for getting local children in low income households participating in sports. - Julien Bergeron is the Deputy Fire Chief for Northern Sunrise County. He’s also in preparation and taking donations for the Canadian Fallen Firefighter Foundation.
As part of the fundraising efforts, Bergeron will be running along Hwy 16 between Edson and Jasper in mid-August. - FCSS offices in Big Lakes County are re-opening for the summer. The office in Faust will be re-opening today, and the office in Kinuso is re-opening tomorrow.
- Teams have released some schedules out for the Quarter-finals of the Wheatbelt Baseball League. The best-of-three series starts tomorrow in Grimshaw, where Sexsmith will play.
The other series starts Friday in Grande Prairie, where Manning will play. Rycroft and Peace River have byes into the semi-finals. - The Toronto Blue Jays finish their three-game set in Chicago this afternoon. Eric Lauer starts for the Jays against Adrian Houser. The Jays have won 10 games in a row.
- Sunshine, but cooler temperatures are in store for the Northwest this afternoon. The winds will be picking up as well, especially in the Peace with gusts to 70.
There is a chance of showers in the Mackenzie, with high only around 20 degrees. Lows tonight will again be in the low teens, but digits get higher tomorrow and Friday.
