  1. The Berwyn Fiesta takes place today with lots of events happening during the day. The theme of the event is, “It’s more than an Fiesta, it’s a reunion!”

  2. The Provincial Government is investing into more classroom spaces for schools.
    Over $50 million dollars is being put into pre-made classrooms, new charter schools, and future projects.
    In this region, the school in Paddle Prairie is one of 13 schools in the pre-planning stage of possible expansion.
  3. The town of Manning is planning to demolish the Outdoor Rink at the Jack McAvoy Arena. No timeframe has been given for the project.
    Residents with concerns or questions, are to contact the town office.
  4. People in La Crete are eagerly anticipating work happening on the new bridge to replace the Tompkins Landing ferry.
    A much talked about road construction project in Northern Alberta is the Highway 686 extension to connect the Peace region to Fort McMurray.

  5. The work of the Peace Regional Mental Health Task Force is continuing. Grimshaw’s representative, Councillor Stacey Messner gave an update at a recent Council meeting.
    Council voted to keep Grimshaw’s participation in the Task Force active.
  6. A Peace River hockey player been selected to attend the 2025 Team Alberta U18 Female Fall Camp.
    Tayla Lamabe will be one of 28 players at the camp in Red Deer in late September.
    The players will represent Alberta at the 2025 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in November in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland.
  7. The MLB Trade Deadline is 4pm this afternoon… The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired Cy Young winner Shane Bieber from Cleveland, in exchange for a pitching prospect.
    Bieber is currently rehabing from Tommy John Surgery, and is expected to be active come mid-August. The Jays however, are still looking for bullpen help.
  8. Week 9 of the CFL season starts tonight with Calgary in Ottawa. The Stamps are 5-2, the Redblacks are 1-6.
  9. Heat warnings are continuing in the Northwest, as today is forecasted to be the hottest day of the week.
    Highs this afternoon are 34 in the Peace, 35 in the Mackenzie, and 31 in the Big Lakes. Lows tonight are in the mid teens, with relief coming during the long weekend.
