  1. Valleyview RCMP has re-arrested a woman, who was recently released pending trial, on further assault with a weapon charges.
    29 year-old Jeneva Chowace was apprehended on October 7th on weapons and drug charges, and now more charges after police were informed that someone used a firearm to assault the complainant, back on Monday.
  2. From the RCMP’s Weekly Wanted File, police are looking for Jarod Brandon Gene Whitehead.
    Their last known whereabouts was in Little Buffalo, and is noted for activities in Peace River, Atikameg, Little Buffalo, Marten Lake, Red Earth Creek, Cadotte Lake, and Loon Lake.
  3. The Speech from the Throne is being delivered at the Legislature in Edmonton today.
  4. The majority of voters in the County of Northern Lights say they do not support a nuclear power generation facility within their county.
  5. As the season winds down, Wildfire Crews are still busy, but have gained the upper-hand on a few fires still burning in the region.
  6. Jolene Noble of Manning is one of four people across Canada, to get a $20,000 schloarship from Nuffield Canada for self-directed research.
  7. Despite schools not being open right now, School Divisions around the Region is marking School Bus Safety week this week.
  8. Some delays have caused the opening of the Peace Regional Pool to be now opening this weekend.
    The facility has been closed for shutdown for nearly two months, but operators were also dealing with the construction of the new Hot Tub.
  9. La Crete’s Cole Penner is making an impact in his first season in the AJHL.
    Penner plays for the Grande Prairie Storm and says there’s some parts of his game that he has been working on. (Interview in separate story)
  10. The local Bantam Football season is over for the Peace River Prospectors.
    They ended up with a winless season after a 37-18 loss last night to the GP Raiders in their Quarter-final game.
    Meanwhile, the senior teams in Peace River, High Prairie and Valleyview continue to be on hiatus because of the teachers strike.
  11. Five Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight. Montreal is in Edmonton, Vancouver is in Nashville, Seattle is in Winnipeg, and Philidelphia is in Ottawa.
  12. The NFL Thursday-nighter is Minnisota in LA to play the Chargers.
  13. Sunshine and mild temperatures are forecasted for the Northwest for the next 48 hours.
    Highs are in the low teens this afternoon, with lows tonight being between zero and 5. Digits cool down on the weekend, and possibly get either wet or white by Sunday.
