Another great anime blockbuster.
Chainsaw Man Reze Arc follows up on the first season of the anime and tells the story of Denji and Reze.
Our protagonist, Denji, has had a rough upbringing, and a constant struggle for him has been finding love. So when love finally seems within reach for him, of course, he is conflicted, but it turns out it was a rouse. Watching him grapple with this through humour and, of course, really awesome action scenes just cements this as a fantastic film.
Chainsaw Man is near and dear to my heart. The guy who did the morning show before me let me borrow the first Chainsaw Man manga, and since then, I have been hooked. I’ve been reading and following along as the story has been released over the last couple of years. So, when I heard that they were going to be adapting one of my favourite arcs of the series, I was excited.
Visually, the movie looks fantastic. We get to see the original style of the manga adapted for the big screen, and it is a gross yet beautiful art style. There are moments that are callbacks to the manga for fans, but just on its own, it looks fantastic, from the explosions to the visceral tearing and cutting of the chainsaws.
The soundtrack is also phenomenal; the opening song and movie are so good that they’ve been on repeat for me since I watched it. The ending song is also amazing, and if you stayed to the end, there is a post-credit scene that adds some more bittersweetness to the story.
Overall, this is a must-see film this year. Of course, I would recommend you watch the first season of the anime to get the full experience. Check out the trailer below to see some of the animation work in action.
