  1. Powerwood Canada Corporation, headquartered in Calgary is announcing the plans to build two facilities on prepared land near La Crete, starting this spring.
    The company will convert forest fire deadwood into biofuel, namely Black Pellets, to replace coal in Japanese Power plants.
  2. The Provincial Governemt has cancelled Diploma Exams for January, in response to the Teacher’s Strike.
    That means students are not required to take exams in January for Grade 12’s, not the Provincial Achievement tests for Grade 9’s.
  3. With the state of the economy right now, more people are becoming more aware of scams popping up, even in the Agriculture Industry.
    Northern Sunrise County is doing their part by presenting a Scam Alert presentation tonight at the Culture Center in St. Isadore.
  4. Alberta hasn’t increased their minimum wage in several years and the NDP opposition has put forward a bill to try and change that. (Kathleen Ganley Interview in separate story)
  5. Despite teams not having played in October because of the Teacher’s Strike, Football Alberta has come out with Provincial rankings for this past week.
    Peace River remains at Number 1 in 9-a-side, despite not playing last week, nor playing this week. Schedules are still being worked on to finish the season.
  6. AJHL tonight… The Grande Prairie Storm start a South Division Road trip tonight in Calgary.
  7. Three Canadian teams in action in the NHL tonight. Edmonton is in Dallas, Winnipeg is in Los Angeles, and Philidelphia is in Montreal.
  8. Finalists for Year-end awards from Major League Baseball have been announced, and only one Toronto Blue Jay is up for an award, despite the season they had.
    John Schneider is up for Manager of the Year in the American League, but the rest of the awards, including the Gold Gloves, are all the usual suspects, except for Ty France, who won a Gold Glove at first base splitting his time between Minnisota and Toronto in 2025.
  9. Sunshine is the order of the day today in the Northwest. Highs are just above zero, with lows tonight being around -10 under clear skies.
    Cloud cover starts rolling in tomorrow with snow coming to the Peace and Big Lakes Wednesday night, and continuing until Friday. Sunshine will return by the weekend.
