My First Predator is a great one.
Predator Badlands follows a young runt hunter who, in order to prove his worth, goes to a dangerous planet and hunts the most dangerous prey. On his journey, he meets others. a synthetic human…or at least half of one and a local creature.
One of the things this movie focuses on is the planet and how everything is dangerous and trying to kill you. So throughout the movie, he learns to navigate it and even uses it to his advantage. On the one hand, I want to visit this planet because it looks really pretty, but I’m pretty sure I would die as soon as I got there. So I think the movie does a great job of capturing both sides of the planet.
The Predator’s tribe teaches him that emotions and vulnerability are weaknesses, but throughout his quest, he learns that it might not necessarily be the case. I think the movie has a good moral, and it’s interesting to see this super-strong hunter learn about another kind of strength.
Just because there is learning and character growth doesn’t mean there can’t be great action. A lot of the fights are great, we get some one-on-one combat near the beginning and the end, watching their cool red laserswords fight. But throughout the movie, he is fighting nature, so it’s a little more brutal and a struggle. Not to say it isn’t cool. There is one moment where he slices a creature in two in slo-mo. It’s epic.
Overall, with great visuals, morals, and action, I think this one is a great film to see on the big screen. If you want to see more, check out the trailer below.
