The dates are set, and registration is now open for the 2026 Alberta Pond Hockey Championships, returning to the frozen surface of scenic Lac Cardinal near Grimshaw from March 6–8.
Widely regarded as one of the region’s premier winter events, the tournament is open to players of all ages and skill levels, with three divisions available:
Recreation Division – $500 per team
Women’s Division – $250 per team
Junior Division – $100 per team
As part of the weekend experience, every registered player will receive a Gala Ticket for the big community celebration night, taking place on the Saturday of Pond Hockey Weekend at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex in Grimshaw.
Organizers urge teams to register early, noting that the championships typically fill up. With its expansive outdoor rinks and natural-ice setting, the event continues to embody the purest form of the sport.
“Hockey was born and raised on the frozen ponds, lakes, dugouts and rivers of Canada. Outdoors in the crisp winter air, no red or blue lines, no face-off circles, in the open and just for fun. The Alberta Pond Hockey Championships will tip its hat to the days when hockey was played the way nature intended it”, organizers emphasize.
Teams can secure their spot and find complete event details at AlbertaPondHockey.com.
