- Valleyview RCMP have charged two people in connection to over 300 animals being in distress at the two locations of In the Woods Animal Rescue.
69 year-old Sheryl Woods of Marie Reine, and 67 year-old Cheryl Bastien of the MD of Smoky River have been arrested and will appear in court in Peace River next month. - RCMP in the Peace Region have arrested a resident of Cadotte Lake, whose charges keep adding up.
25 year-old Karson Nahachick saw police on Thursday in Simon Lake, and ran away, but was caught the next day. - Election results have come forward for Council of the Woodland Cree First Nation. Isaac Laboucan-Avirom has been re-elected as Chief.
Of the 23 candidates on the ballot, Blaine Auger, Lawrence Lamouche Jr., Elvis Thomas, John Cardinal Jr., and George Merrier Sr. were voted in on Council. - 16 year-old Gage Cadorette-Lawrence has been located, and is safe.
Cadorette-Lawrence was last seen two months ago leaving Kinuso school, maybe heading towards Edmonton. - The Alberta Emergency Alert is testing the system this afternoon. Messages will be appearing on radio, TV, cellphones and tablets at 1:55 this afternoon.
- Alberta’s new License Plate has been unveiled. More than 240,000 votes were cast, with the winning design featuring Moraine Lake in Banff National Park.
The winning design also replaces the slogan of Wild Rose Country, with Strong and Free. The new plates are expected to roll out mid-2026. - Spirit River’s Dayle Ross at this point is on the pre-season roster of the New York Sirens of the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
The Sirens start the regular season Saturday in Ottawa, where the regular season roster will be announced.
Meanwhile, Anna Jeffs of Peace River continues to work on her game as a freshman playing hockey at the University of Arizona.
Jeffs has a goal and 5 assists in 10 games with the Wildcats, so far this season. - NWJHL tonight… Grande Prairie is in Fairview and Dawson Creek is in Peace River.
- Four games in the NHL tonight… Edmonton is in Washington, Calgary is in Buffalo, Carolina is in Minnisota, and Boston is in Anaheim.
- Mainly sunny skies are in store for the Northwest today. Highs are just below zero, with lows tonight being a debate as to whether the block heater chord might be needed.
In other words, -12 in the Peace down to -18 in the Mackenzie. Skies will remain relatively clear for the rest of this week.
