The Town of Fairview has completed energy-efficiency upgrades at the Fairview Aquatic Centre.
Town officials say the improvements are projected reduce operating costs by more than $22,000 each year and cut greenhouse gas emissions by about 152 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
The upgrades come from support from the Government of Alberta’s Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Community Energy Conservation Program.
The municipality received a grant of $310,967 toward the $518,000 project, which included upgrades to the facility’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system and the conversion of existing lighting to energy-efficient LED fixtures. The project replaced aging mechanical components with high-efficiency equipment featuring heat recovery and modern controls.
Town of Fairview CAO Daryl Greenhill said the investment helps ensure community facilities remain reliable and cost-effective while delivering environmental benefits.
The Community Energy Conservation Program provides funding to Alberta municipalities to improve the energy performance of municipally owned buildings and infrastructure.
