The Mighty Peace Basketball League is coming back for another season this spring.
League president Nic Gagnon says they’ve already received a strong response from players interested in playing this season.
“We actually have two new teams this year, we have one from Manning and a local Peace River team that’s starting up new, so we’ve got some new teams which is always good to have new blood. We have women this year that will be joining our league, it’s not really co-ed but we have three women per team if you want to have women on your roster. We’re trying to add a little bit here and there just to enhance the league and create a little more opportunities for everyone.”
Now entering their third season, Gagnon says they’ve managed to get a good following of fan support.
“It’s a lot of parents that come and families that are there, but if we can add a little more here and there we’re always open to it. I think because we have a lot of Peace River teams, having it in Glenmary does bring a lot more fans just because of the location. We’re gonna see what’s out there and we’re trying to hire a photographer this year as well to get a little more photos out there.”
The season will start on April 26, games will happen at Glenmary School in Peace River and the Mile Zero Multiplex in Grimshaw.
Gagnon says they’re hopeful to get more communities involved in the future.
