The MD of Peace has issued a Yellow Warning flooding advisory as spring melt conditions increase the risk of flooding in low-lying areas and near river channels.
The municipality says crews are taking a proactive approach, with ditch clearing, culvert maintenance, and snowbank removal underway to improve drainage.
Public Works crews are also clearing culverts with upgraded steaming equipment is ready to address blockages as needed.
In addition, the MD is monitoring the long-range forecast and water conditions to respond as quickly and efficiently as possible while conditions change.
Residents are urged to stay alert around fast-moving water, watch for plugged culverts and erosion, and take steps to protect their properties, including clearing snow away from foundations and ensuring sump pumps are working.
The MD notes that pooling water and runoff are expected during the thaw.
If there are urgent issues, such as wash-outs, localized flooding, or significant road damage, they should be reported immediately to the MD of Peace at (780) 338-3845.
