The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division Board of Trustees has announced that École Providence in McLennan will close at the end of the current school year.

The decision comes after a review of long-term enrolment trends, school sustainability, and resource management. Board Chair Kelly Whalen acknowledged the school’s deep roots in the community, calling the move a difficult but necessary step.

École Providence has served families in McLennan for many years, supported by dedicated staff, parish members, and local residents.

Division officials say they will work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition for students տեղափոխing to other schools, with a focus on maintaining academic progress and faith-based learning.

The division also expressed gratitude to the school’s staff for their years of service and lasting impact on students.

Meanwhile, the Town of McLennan is raising concerns following the decision to permanently close École Providence School at the end of June 2026.

The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division says low student enrolment and financial pressures led to the closure, adding that all current students will be accommodated at other schools within the division.

However, town officials say they were not given adequate notice. Council only became aware the school was at risk in mid-February, despite earlier being asked to help boost enrolment, with no mention of a possible closure.

In March, the Town formally requested more information from the Division but says it has yet to receive a response. Councillors also expressed concern that key discussions, including the school’s history, were held behind closed doors.

Parents have raised issues about transportation for students in surrounding areas, though the Division says no formal requests have been submitted.

Mayor Doris says the Town will continue advocating for families as the community prepares for the transition.
