  1. Reactions have come from the Town of McLennan on the announcement of the closing of Ecole Providence.
    Mayor Jason Doris says they will continue to advocate on behalf of residents and seek clarity on the next steps and supports available moving forward.
    Low student enrolment and financial pressures are the primary reasons from the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, for the closure.
  2. The Peace River School Division is moving to Plan B, after the provincial government cancelled the current tendered project to build a new school in Red Earth Creek.
    The Infrastructure Ministry cited the lowest bids and tender packages were over budget, so the Division is working on transitioning to a design-build model for the facility.
    The Division says this plan delays completion of the project by nine months.
  3. RCMP have 27 year-old Lane Johnson Laboucan of Fox Lake in custody on firearms complaints.
    Late last month, police received a report of a home being shot at, with no injuries taking place. Laboucan is in court tomorrow.
  4. The transition period is happening in Fairview, as Northwestern Polytechnic is replaced by Northern Lakes College. (Glenn Mitchell interview in separate story)
  5. Alberta won’t consider following the federal government in pausing fuel taxes for the summer until after the province’s next scheduled review period begins.
    Ottawa is set to suspend the federal fuel excise tax next week, as part of a summer affordability measure.
  6. Six games in the NHL tonight, with seeding games possibly decided in the West.
    Seattle is in Las Vegas is the biggest game, a win by the Golden Knights with give them the Pacific Division pennant.
    Elsewhere, Toronto is in Ottawa, San Jose is in Chicago, Dallas is in Buffalo, the Rangers are in Tampa Bay, and Detroit is in Florida.
  7. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their series in Milwaukee tonight on #42 day, in honour of Jackie Robinson breaking the Major League colour barrier.
    Dylan Cease starts for the Jays against Chad Patrick.
  8. Skies will start clearing out this afternoon in the Big Lakes, while the Peace and Mackenzie enjoy lots of sunshine.
    Highs are just below zero, with lows tonight being chilly, at just below -10.
    Temperatures start warming up a little starting tomorrow, possibly reaching the mid teens by early next week.
