A TikTok post earlier this month prompted school divisions across the Northwest to review safety procedures and emergency protocols.
Jeff Thompson, Superintendent of the Peace River School Division, says the situation created concern among students, staff, and parents, but authorities confirmed there was no immediate threat to schools.
Thompson says schools remained open, despite some students staying home, because safety officials assured divisions that proper procedures were in place. He adds the incident serves as an important reminder about the need to stay prepared and maintain clear communication with families and staff.
Thompson says student and staff safety remains the top priority, and while the situation ended safely, divisions continue reviewing protocols to ensure readiness if a similar incident happens again.
