Lightning storms across northwestern Alberta sparked several wildfires over the weekend, keeping fire crews busy across the region.
Despite the new fire starts, firefighters have made significant progress on two major blazes: one in the mountains southwest of Slave Lake and another along the Steen River, north of Meander River.
Crews have gained the upper hand on both fires, helping to reduce the immediate threat.
Favorable weather conditions are expected to further aid suppression efforts.
Cooler overnight temperatures are forecast across northern Alberta, while rain is expected in the Big Lakes region, providing much-needed moisture to help contain the fires.
