Alberta Rangelands invested into by Province

Alberta is investing in the future of its rangelands through the Rangeland Sustainability Program.

The initiative reinvests a portion of grazing disposition rental fees into projects led by researchers, non-profits and agricultural organizations focused on protecting and improving the province’s grasslands.

Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen says Alberta’s rangelands are vital natural assets that support wildlife, livestock and healthy ecosystems.

Agriculture Minister Tara Sawyer adds the funding will help boost research and stewardship efforts that keep rangelands productive for farmers and ranchers.

This year’s projects include native grassland restoration, pest management research, public education campaigns and targeted goat grazing to control invasive species and overgrown brush on grazing lands.

One organization being invested into is the Peace Country Beef and Forage Association, based in Fairview.
