  1. Investigations are underway into a Grass Fire on Peace River’s Toboggan Hill in the North end yesterday. Crews were called, and quickly gained control of the blaze.
    Traffic along 98th Street had to be temporarily re-routed during the event.
  2. Peace Regional RCMP officers were busy conducting an operation last night.
    There was a heavy police presence in the Lower West Peace neighbourhood and people were asked to avoid the area for some time.
  3. The Ice Jam Warning continues for the Lawrence River, east of John D’or Prairie.
    The Ice Jam Watch continues for the Peace River, from Garden River to Wood Buffalo Park.
    But, the High Streamflow Advisory has ended for the East and West Prairie Rivers, near High Prairie.
    And the Ice Jam Watch has ended for the Peace River, up towards the Manning area.
  4. The Town of High Level will be holding a by-election in June, to fill the vacant Council position.
    Unofficially, multiple people have let their names stand to take over from Jori Zatko, who resigned earlier this year.
  5. Two people are dead following an accident on Hwy 2, east of Slave Lake on Sunday afternoon.
    Initial reports indicate a vehicle crossed the double lines into the path of oncoming traffic.
    A 58 year-old man, and 62 year-old woman, both of Slave Lake were killed at the scene, which closed the highway for several hours.
  6. Educators across the province have been appointed to the Teacher Advisory Council to help shape the education policy for students K-12.
    Nearly 200 teachers applied, with only 16 appointed, which includes Matthew Kierstead, the Principal of the Collegiate in the Fort Vermilion School Division.
  7. Missing, and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirited people are being remembered and honoured today with National Red Dress Day.
    Residents are being encouraged to take part in a gathering and memorial walk, starting at 4:30 at the Peace River Museum, and will go to the Sagitawa Friendship Society.
  8. Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest is holding a public consultation regarding the future of French Education in the High Level area.
    The meeting are tonight and tomorrow night at the Mackenzie Crossroads Museum, with the goals of sharing ideas, and possibly building a francophone future in the region.
  9. The Mighty Peace Peewee Football League has released their schedule for this Spring.
    The Peace River Panthers play on Saturday afternoon against the Grande Prairie Lions, 12:30 at Glenmary School.
  10. Teams in the Wheatbelt Baseball League are releasing schedules for the 2026 season.
    The Peace River Stampeders open their season on May 27 at home to Manning.
    The Grande Prairie Brewers open their season on May 20 at home to Grimshaw.
    One notable observation is the High Prairie Sauce may not be playing this year.
  11. The NHL Draft Lottery goes tonight… Vancouver has the best odds for the first overall pick. Chicago, the Rangers, Calgary, and Toronto are in the Top 5.
    On the ice is Game 2 – Minnesota is in Colorado.
  12. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their series in Tampa Bay tonight. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Drew Rasmussen.
  13. Sunshine and comfortable temperatures are in store for the Northwest this afternoon. Highs are pushing the mid teens, with lows tonight, just above zero.
    Digits could start pushing 20 by the weekend.
