A teacher from Peace River’s Glenmary School will be heading to Nantes, France this coming summer. Monique Randall (pictured) is one of five Canadians who will be attending Diplôme d’études en langues française (DELF), which is an international exam recognized by the Ministry of Education in the French Republic testing French proficiency of the exam taker. Mrs. Randall has been administrating and assessing DELF exams since they came into place in 2007. The training lasts for two weeks, after which she will become a trainer for teachers in Northwest Alberta wanting to administer and assess the exam themselves. Teaching at Glenmary for the last 22 years, Randall says she really appreciates the opportunity, and is looking forward to starting this new chapter in her career. She says she attributes her successes to her ongoing desire to learn something new, to give students opportunities with their language abilities and the ongoing support of both the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division and its administrators. The French Embassy hands out scholarships to participants across the world, with five going to Canadians annually. The Grande Prairie-based French Language Resource Centre nominated her for the scholarship, saying she’s got excellent leadership skills, is a strong promoter of the French language and is comfortable in public speaking. All graduating students at Glenmary School’s French Immersion program take the DELF B2 Exam, passing it allowing them the ability to study at any French-speaking university and work in any French-speaking workplace around the world.
