The Province of Alberta has an agreement with Saskatchewan and Manitoba for collaborating on joint economic corridor projects.

Devin Dreeshen, Alberta’s Transportation Minister, says they want to boost trade and economic growth with new “nation-building” projects.

“A pipeline project, a rail project, market roads that need to connect to each other so you can actually have free-flowing truck traffic, all of that is included in this memorandum of understanding. Harmonizing of regulations as well is included in this. It was quite the historic day for the prairie provinces to link together.”

Dreeshen says they’d also like to have other provinces and the federal government get involved in these types of projects as well.

“What’s neat about this is working with first nations on the ground and counties and some municipal levels of government as well as provincial levels of government. We want to be able to find areas where we can essentially have a right-of-way that’s taking out all of the political and permitting risks so that it’s ready there to be developed. All that political uncertainty and that bureaucratic red tape has all been taken care of.”
