Mandatory Evacuation Order Lifted: May 18th
Town of Valleyview Only

The Mandatory Evacuation Order affecting Town of Valleyview residents has been lifted. Re-entry to the townsite will begin at 12:00pm.

Fire barriers have been constructed in vulnerable areas and we continue to closely monitor the fire activity and wind and weather conditions. Following conversations with the Valleyview Fire Chief, Alberta Forestry, and key emergency management agencies, Town of Valleyview has now been downgraded to an Evacuation Alert. Although permitted to return home, residents are advised to remain prepared to evacuate within one hour if circumstances change. Valleyview remains under a State of Local Emergency.

Throughout this event, there was no loss of power, water, or gas to customers within the municipality.

Residents are advised:

Access to hospital, health care, mental health services and EMS may be limited for several days. Those seeking immediate medical attention may need to seek assistance in neighboring communities.
Services may be limited, including grocery/food supplies and gas service stations. Please shop for necessities such as groceries, pharmaceuticals, fuel, etc. prior to returning home. Be prepared to stock enough necessities for up to 5 days.
Although local fuel supply may be limited, cardlock services remain available and Valleyview UFA will also accommodate non-members.
Daycare and school operation may remain disrupted.
Other services such as restaurants and non-essential retail may also be limited.
Fuel and services are not available from Whitecourt to Little Smoky.
Heavy smoke remains present in and around the Valleyview area, as well as along Hwy 43. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving due to limited visibility and increased traffic.

It is recommended those residents with respiratory or mobility issues consult with their medical professional prior to re-entry.
