It’s a new initiative to hopefully help Alberta’s beekeeping industry.
The Canada-Alberta Bee Colony Assistance Initiative is aiding the compensation the industry for replacement colonies, and bee packages or queens between last January and this past April.
With Alberta having the largest honey-producing colonies in the country, this partnership helps with the high-loss ratio.
The numbers were calculated during the winter of 2021-2022, due to the extreme cold weather.
The enterprise brings optimism for recovery and growth to the sector.
