
The wildfire danger level in the Peace River Forest Area is back to high.
Alberta Wildfire officials say a total of 12 wildfires continue to burn in the region, nine are listed as under control and three are being held.
Included in those fires is the 143,000 hectare blaze known as the Kimiwan Complex fire north of High Prairie, firefighters are focusing on extinguishing hotspots and consolidating containment lines.
Since the turn of the year, 131 wildfires have been reported in the Peace River Forest Area.
Meanwhile in the High Level Forest Area, the fire danger is now classified as “Very High”.
Temperatures have been increasing and there hasn’t been much in the way of significant rainfall.
With hunting season around the corner firefighters are reminding everyone to use extreme caution when recreating in the forested areas.
