  1. Alberta’s Legislature reconvenes today, with a lot of question marks being raised, especially with the pending Budget, scheduled to be released and tabled on Thursday.
    Inquiries will be raised however concerning the rising cost of living, border and trade tensions with the Americans, and the on-going issues being raised with the former AHS.
  2. Peter Guthrie, Alberta’s minister of infrastructure, has resigned from cabinet because of a lack of support for his concerns with “inconsistencies” in Alberta Health and AHS.
  3. Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair visited St. Andrew’s School in High Prairie, and discussions of the next steps in advocating for a new school were brought forward to members of the HFCRD board.
    In a separate motion, the board passed the idea of financially supporting schools through the Board Initiative Fund on the school’s milestone anniversary.
    5, 10 or 15 years will receive $250, milestones between 20 and 45 years receive $500, and 50 + years receive $1,000.
  4. Transportation eligibility is being discussed for PRSD students K-6 for the 2026 school year. Speaking of the school year, the calendar of the 2026 school year has been approved and circulated.
    A motion to write a letter to Alberta Education, regarding the furniture and equipment budget for the new school in Red Earth Creek.
  5. They’re getting ready at Lac Cardinal for the 2025 Alberta Pond Hockey Champions.
    Wednesday is the deadline for teams to register, and organizer Dave Allen says they usually get quite a number of teams signing up at the last minute. (Interview in Separate story)
  6. NPHL playoffs tonight… Game 2 – Manning is in Spirit River, the Comets took the opening game. Game 3 – Falher is in Dawson Creek, the series is tied at 1 win each.
  7. Four Canadian teams hit the ice in the NHL tonight… Edmonton is in Tampa Bay, Calgary is in Washington, Toronto is in Boston, and Carolina is in Montreal.
  8. Sunshine with slippery sidewalks and roadways are forecasted for the rest of the week in the Northwest.
    Highs this afternoon are above zero in the Peace and Big Lakes, just below zero in the Mackenzie.
    Lows tonight are quite varied, with -2 in the Big Lakes, -7 in the Peace, and -15 with light snow in the Mackenzie.
