At a time when Warner Bros. is seemingly scrubbing the Looney Tunes from it’s streaming, canned a well tested movie in Coyote vs Acme (now being saved), they released The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. Now the movie did not see major marketing and struggled at the box office but has gotten rave reviews and it is easy to understand why. The film originally intended to be a streaming release got a theatrical one thanks to Ketchup Entertainment, the same company saving Coyote vs Acme. Ketchup Entertainment doesn’t have the pockets that Warner Bros. have to properly promote
When it comes to films for kids there is usually nothing safer than a Looney Tunes film. The movie was vintage Looney Tunes, but only sees classic characters Daffy Duck and Porky Pig in the movie, so don’t go expecting to see Bugs and the rest of the gang.
The movie sees Daffy and Porky finding jobs in order to pay for a new roof after a mysterious hole appears in theirs, to keep from losing their childhood home. They end up working at the gum factory, when Daffy discovers something is wrong and an evil plot. Daffy and Porky team up with scientist Petunia Pig to try and save the world from an alien.
The movie brings old school Looney Tunes comedy alongside some twists and turns in the movie that explores the ultimate odd couple relationship of Daffy and Porky. The comedy is inoffensive and will have the kids enjoying a night out at the movies. Kids and parents alike will enjoy the comedy that will trigger memories of the Looney Tunes for those older while helping introduce the pair of classic characters to the young generation who may not be familiar with them in this day and age. While the future of Looney Tunes seems up in the air, this is a stellar example of how the classic franchise still works in 2025. While it isn’t a movie that is going to win awards it does it’s job and brings laughter to the crowd and smiles on faces.
Final Grade: 9/10
